How to Solve the Time Management Problem Once and For All
Time management is a universal problem.
Have you ever written out a list of things to do, scheduled all the activities, and then realized at the end of the day that you hadn’t accomplished even one of them? Tell me, if this is a regular phenomenon, how soon will you reach your goals? Never.
Why is time management so hard, and what can you do to solve the problem?
Stop and think about this question for just a moment. What are your priorities and values? Chances are those things that are so hard to get started doing are not related to your main priorities at all. You are trying to do something that just isn’t important to you. If this is the case, you may want to rethink whether you should be doing them at all.
On the other end of the spectrum, you may feel like that activity you just can’t find time to do is the most important thing of all. Fear of failure is often the culprit in that case.
Of course priorities are important, and most people realize the need to list what their main priorities are from time to time. And yes, that does help some. But it’s not enough to motivate you to do what’s important, or to solve your time management issues.
There’s a very simple (although perhaps not so easy) solution to the problem. Here it comes. The one thing that makes all the difference between people who have mastered time management and priorities, and those who just can’t no matter how hard they try.
It’s the “why.” If you don’t have a clear vision of WHY your priorities are important to you, you will never develop the discipline to make them happen.
What is your life all about? What is driving force behind all that you do? What does your soul long for? What is your Life Purpose?
Knowing your life purpose will help you chose the priorities that really matter to you and will allow you to live with passion every day and every moment,. If you know your life purpose you will be able to resist the winds of the urgent or more fun to blow you off course, and you will reach your destination. You will have no choice but to accomplish the goals you have set out for yourself.
First know your life purpose, then set priorities based on that. You will find you are not distracted from doing what is important, and if you do get off course, a quick review in your mind of the purpose for those priorities will bring you back to the road to success.
Knowing your priorities and backing them up with your life purpose will form a defense against procrastination and distractions, and give you full use of your time. Time management will no longer be an issue.
Find something that will remind you of your life purpose – a photograph, and object or a quote perhaps, and place it somewhere near your work station. In this way your life purpose will lead to priorities,, and your priorities will be strong enough to help solve the time management problem. This will lead to razor sharp focus, which will in turn bring you to the fulfillment of your dreams and goals.
See you at the top!
